Family Suites

These spacious suites provide the ideal setting for you and your family to relax and unwind – with two bedrooms, a family lounge, large bathrooms, baths to bathe the children, showers, and camp cots. All family suites have balconies with views of the gardens.

Luxury Rooms

Our beautifully-appointed luxury rooms have supremely comfortable four-poster beds or twin beds, a sitting area, balcony overlooking the rose gardens, and a walk-in rain shower.

Standard Rooms

Our standard rooms have beautiful Californian oak furnishings, views of the gardens, and are available with either twin or double beds, showers or baths.

Alex Poltera

Born and bred in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Alex was exposed to the hospitality industry right from the word go. His family had built and started Fern Hill Hotel so for as long as Alex can remember, cheffing and hotel life has been a part of his. An active participant in the culinary scene, Alex is now a proud board member of both Chaine des Rotisseurs and SACA.

Alex has transformed the menu into one which prides itself on using local ingredients with a simple and flavoursome approach. Look out for his sublime food and wine paired dinners and his collaborative dinners with other top chefs in the area. Known for progressive plant-based offerings, Fern Hill is also a Mecca for vegans and vegetarians. Alex also excels in event catering and can create a bespoke menu for your special occasion.

Being an all-in-one venue means you don’t have to co-ordinate travelling between accommodation, ceremony, and reception. For guests and relatives travelling a distance to attend your wedding, we can offer a discounted bed and breakfast rate, subject to availability.

Perfect Venue

Fern Hill Hotel can cater for weddings up to a maximum of 250 people if you use our beautiful Fern Theatre for your reception. We do, however, have numerous venues for smaller, more intimate weddings. Our breath-taking chapel is quite possibly one of the best kept secrets of the Midlands. With large, contemporary stained-glass windows, double volume height ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass doors with views of the gardens, and striking driftwood chandeliers, the Fern Hill Chapel makes for a memorable wedding service.

The exquisite gardens make an idyllic setting for your wedding photos. If our 30 acres of park-like grounds and manicured gardens aren’t the right backdrop, we are only 500m from Midmar Dam, to which you will be granted free access to have your photos taken.

Fern Theatre 

The Fern Theatre offers our guests a large open space (230m²) with beautiful views of the gardens. It is a staggeringly impressive room which can house up to 200 people cinema style. Need more space? It opens up into neighboring Greenwood room allowing a further 60 seats. There is a stage, pull down screen, four air-conditioners and Fibre Internet connection. This is our flagship conference venue and is placed in the center of all the other smaller venues therefore allowing it to make use of the smaller venues as break away rooms. Fundraisers, corporate Christmas parties, motivational speakers, product launches, team building, government workshops are but a few examples of what the venue can host.

Greenwood Room

Classic in style, no external distractions and perfect for a smaller more intimate conference. This venue is perfect for conferences that need to knuckle down and work. With Fibre Internet connection, a pull down screen, air-conditioning, an annex for teatime breaks, as well as ablutions close to the venue the Greenwood room proves a great all in one venue.

Karkloof Room

The Karkloof Room is one of our smaller venues catering up to 60 people cinema style, 32 people classroom style and 25 people U-Shaped. It has high speed fibre Internet, air-conditioning, pull down screen, block out blinds, it’s own unisex ablutions attached, views of the gardens, and is one of our quietest venues in the hotel. Tea time breaks are often enjoyed out in the garden by our gazebo.

Orange Tree

Modern, clean lines set in a stunning English country garden. This venue is our most popular for conference year end functions. Its picturesque setting and feature lighting means little decor is required to make your event look great. Looking to host a business breakfast or perhaps launch a new product? With Fibre Internet connection, air-conditioning and endless views of our secret gardens, this is your venue.
